Literal and Spiritual Zion
Right from the day of the capture of the fort of ZION which was held by Jebusites (2 Sam 5:6-9), “ZION” was the dwelling place of David and it was also known as the central location in Jerusalem. It was a literal place in Jerusalem. The scripture refers to the dwellers of “ZION”. (Lamentations 2:4, 4:22)
In the former eternity, God predestined the foundation of the Spiritual Zion through Jesus Christ (Isaiah 8:14; 28:16; 1 Peter 2:6-7; Romans.9:33). This is to be established in eternity through the Son of God Jesus Christ. He was born in flesh as the son of David and the place where Christ dwells forever with the His saints is the spiritual “ZION”. (Isaiah.11:1; Joel.3:16-18; Psa.74:2; 132:13-14; Zech. 1:14-17; 8:1-3).
Due to their disobedience, the wrath of God was poured on Israel, the literal “ZION”. Many times, they were destroyed and taken as captives. Most of these prophecies regarding Zion were focused on captivity and their restoration. In the book of Isaiah, “ZION” is mentioned 52 times. It starts with the verse “The vision concerning Judah and Jerusalem that Isaiah son of Amoz saw during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.”. It means that as long as the Jewish race continues to exist, these prophecies are for them. It’s not for some pseudo-Zionists from any organization.
As an example, read the below prophecy on Zion and know that it was addressed to physical Israel.
“Return, faithless people,” declares the Lord, “for I am your husband. I will choose you—one from a town and two from a clan—and bring you to Zion.Jer 3:14
ZION is mentioned 15 times in the book of Lamentations by the author Jeremiah, the weeping prophet. The context clearly tells us that it is directed to Literal Israel.
4 The ways of Zion do mourn because none come to the solemn feasts: all her gates are desolate: her priests sigh, her virgins are afflicted, and she is in bitterness.Lam 1:4
It is mentioned 40 times in Psalms. The inherited city of David is also depicted as Literal and also a Spiritual subject of Hope. For eg., Psalms 84:5 says “Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage (Zion).” In verse 7 psalmist says “….each appears before God in Zion.“
REMEMBER ZION is always CONNECTED TO ISRAEL. IT HAS NO EXCLUSIVE RELATIONSHIP WITH A CULT ORGANIZATION FROM SOUTH INDIA.
The Erring Zion
And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.Isa 1:8
The return and restoration of ZION of Israel which was scattered all over the world after 70 A.D was fulfilled in 1948 A.D. They were scattered because of the curses of the mosaic covenant they were party to.
I have written this to show some light to those who manipulate and twist the scripture for their selfish motives. I leave the rest of the reference for the readers to find out and understand the subject.
The Restoration of Israel(Zion)
17 For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after. 18 THUS SAITH THE LORD; BEHOLD, I WILL BRING AGAIN THE CAPTIVITY OF JACOB’S TENTS, AND HAVE MERCY ON HIS DWELLING PLACES, AND THE CITY SHALL BE BUILT UPON HER OWN HEAP, AND THE PALACE SHALL REMAIN AFTER THE MANNER THEREOF.Jer 30:17-18
10 Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the Lord.11 And many nations shall be joined to the Lord in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me unto thee.Zech 2:10-11
