As we have mentioned earlier, TPM is based on the concept of equating Christ’s teachings with that of Buddha. They have brought in quite a lot of Buddhist practices and applied it to Christianity. An easy way to understand it their Chanting of praises, Use of Typical Musical instruments, their seating and the special Clergy seats, Monastery living etc. So do you know what happens when you try to force human wisdom into Christian living? The Apostle says by doing such things, we are trying to enliven the things which we are dead towards.

20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,

21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not;

22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?

23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body: not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.

Col 2:20-23

Sunday School Instructions

We will continue to analyse the rest of the portion of the Sunday school instructions which we promised to continue in the previous article of this series.

Do not wear Jewels (point 7 for girls)

This is another twist that has been accepted by many Pentecostals without any scriptural consideration. Look at the scripture that they have quoted.

Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.   1 Peter 3:3-4

The Apostle is telling us that our focus should not be of outward adorning rather that of the inward transformation.  The Real Intent of Peter is said in Verse 4 and he tells us not to spend time on things which have little or no consequence. Sad to say that TPM, does not even want to deal with verse 4 but thinks that doing verse 3 will take care of 4. The way of Christ is NOT a show-business. Sadly TPM and their clergy are focusing on the outward show-business. The last of the 10 Commandment says “Thou Shalt Not Covet” (Exodus 20:17).  God knew that it was easier to follow the first 9 commandments as it can be externally manifested and proved. However, the last commandment is a matter of the heart and nobody knows it apart from you and God.

Paul knew that he was externally blameless as per the Mosaic law(Phil 3:6). However, he also knew that he failed in the 10th Commandment. He was perfect apart from the 10th commandment.

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.

11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

Romans 7:7-11

The solution to such a problem of loving things which are temporal is not the external abstinence but intimacy with Christ. The same clergy who thinks that jewels on women are sinful does not have any problems with praying for costly cars and mansions of their believers.  They are approving the love of material goods and properties unless its GOLD. Do you now understand the hollowness of their doctrine? If Peter would have been living amongst us, he would have said not to Purchase Lands and build mansions calling Faith Homes but rather build orphanages and Old age homes and serve those people. He would have said to not buy costly private cars but rather spend it to buy buses to transport poor believers. He would have said to stop visiting premium restaurants and rather use that money to provide for the underprivileged.

In Short, I want to say that unless you read the scriptures in the Spirit, you will continue to operate Carnally and be reaching heights of Legalism and continue to create doctrines of men in the pretext of a scriptural following.

13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the a]Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Cor 2:13-14

Should not Crop or Cut their hair to a U shape or a V Shape (Point 8 for girls)

Notice the scripture they have quoted.

but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. 1 Cor 11:15

The quoted scripture does not say anything about a Nazarene Vow like a situation where a woman should not touch their hairs with a scissor. If, a lady is blessed with long and good hairs, let it be. But some woman has issues with their hairs where it does not look good. In such a situation, you should trim it and keep it nicely the best way you can.  Note the context of the verse, it says that men should not have long hairs but it is good for a woman to have it. It does not debar woman from trimming it. I would also like to clarify that by “Trimming”, I do not mean cut it short like men. Whatever you do it, do it neatly and let your own parents approve it.

Should always wear White Garments on Sundays (Point 9 for girls and Point 4 for Boys)

Now let us look at the scripture which they have mentioned with the CONTEXT.

Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do. Always be clothed in white, and always anoint your head with oil. Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun—all your meaningless days. For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labour under the sun. Eccl 9:7-9

The specified verse says “ALWAYS” and not only Sundays. The context also speaks about drinking wine and enjoying with your wife. Why do they ignore the context? Why this selective dementia?

Now keeping that aside, should not that which is good for the goose be good for the gander? How come TPM Chief Pastors think they can wear coloured and want the Sunday school kids to wear white? I do not think Eccl 9:8 changes the colour to black when you are in Europe/US. Is not that double standards?

Our God is a Holy God. By Holy it means he is Different from all other Beings.

The Root word in Hebrew is Kadosh

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty. The whole Earth is full of his glory!” (Isaiah 6:3)

“קָדוֹשׁ קָדוֹשׁ קָדוֹשׁ יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת; מְלֹא כָל-הָאָרֶץ, כְּבוֹדוֹ”
“kadosh kadosh kadosh adonai tsvaot; melo hol haarets kvod

The word “Kadosh” (holy) means something that is “other” (set a part) – the exact opposite of the something that is common.

16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. 1 Pet 1:16

God is not Holy because he does something or because he does not do something. His Holiness is a state of his being. We are called to be holy like him by believing and trusting in Him. We cannot be holy by doing some things as said by TPM Clergy or Sunday-school leaderships. If that was so, the Jews could have attained it by following a list of Dos and Dont’s

21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. Gal 2:21

You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. Gal 5:4

  1. The scripture references posted with their edicts are amusing, to say the least. Another proof of the cherry-picking of scriptures to suit their agendas… When will eyes be opened??! If those who profess to be Sunday school teachers cannot discern the contextual inferences of the verses given, what right have they to speak into the lives of young children? Parents beware.
