When I was a teen, I witnessed an auto accident. It was a shocking experience that was compounded by what followed. As the only witness to the incident, I spent the ensuing months telling a series of lawyers and insurance adjusters what I had seen. I was not expected to explain the physics of the wreck or the details of the medical trauma. I was asked to tell only what I had witnessed.
What Jesus Commanded?
As followers of Christ, we are called to be witnesses of what Jesus has done in us and for us. To point people to Christ, we don’t need to be able to explain every theological issue or answer every question. What we must do is explain what we have witnessed in our own lives through the cross and the resurrection of the Savior. Even better is that we don’t have to rely on ourselves alone to do this. Jesus said, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
What Jesus intended was for his disciples to stand as witnesses and give up their lives in adversity.
They triumphed over him
by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much
as to shrink from death.
As we rely on the Spirit’s power, we can point a hurting world to the redeeming Christ. With His help, we can witness to the life-changing power of His presence in our lives!
Of Jesus and His glory, of Jesus and His love.
I love to tell the story, because I know ’tis true;
It satisfies my longings as nothing else can do. —Hankey
In this article we will have an overview on testimony and witnessing in TPM.
The TPM Twist
Some perversions of TPM Testimony twists are as follows.
Being a witness for Christ primarily means public proclamation of our belief that we believe that we will receive eternal life (by belief in Jesus) (Matt 24:14). It is asking people to follow Jesus for eternal life. Thus, witnessing Christ concerns with ETENRAL life. However if we change the eternal perspective to earthly, then we are guilty of what bible labels as “miserable” (I Cor 15:19). If we make Jesus a tool for people to use to get the things of the earth then we are most miserable.
Now let us look at the testimonies which take place in TPM, every Sunday! The TPM minister in-charge announces “time to give testimonies for goodness of God done in our lives.” It is not wrong to glorify God for material blessings to others. However, it is wrong to make a habit to show it in public, and shift the focus of listeners from heavenly realm to earthly one. By such testimonies, the listeners expect God to grant materials and finances in their life to make it enjoyable for their earthly sojourn. Read again. It is not wrong to glorify the goodness of God; we must be thankful in all things! But we can do this privately. Occasionally, we can do it publicly. But to make a habit out of it to market God as Aladdin’s lamp to get earthly desires is perversion of witnessing. TPMs version of testimonies, constantly bombard listeners with the idea of how to make this world a better place to live in. This is in stark contrast to bombarding with which the apostles bombarded the first century church (Acts 14:22). They prepared their audience for persecution and trials. There is no church which bombards prosperity testimonies as frequently as TPM does.
Denominational Migration is Salvation in TPM
I wish I could hear someone stand up and weep with joy saying, “Once I was dead now I am alive; Hallelujah! I am passed form judgment into life! All glory to beloved who loved me and gave his life for me!” But alas! I haven’t heard one testimony where one stood up and expressed his joy in his passing from death to life, in TPM. Testimonies in TPM are only about change of denomination. They typically says, “Once I was in that denomination and then God brought me to this denomination.” They call this denominational migration as salvation! Do you think migrating to TPM is equivalent to entering from death into life eternal?
Marketing tool to advertise false doctrine of divine healing
TPM testimonies are often used to market their false teaching on divine healings. Every Sunday you will find one or two TPM die hard standing up and marketing the TPM doctrine if divine healing.
Now let some TPM minister face a severe sickness unto death and let him die.
They ask believers to get fake medical certificate before burial.
Why can’t they stand with divine healing testimony in circumstance of civil punishment or persecution of prison?
Didn’t the first century believers endured prison for their faith and witnessing?
Did their witnessing cease in lieu of prison persecution?
No! But TPM’s witnessing divine healing ceases.
They lie and produce fake medical certificates for burial.
A TPM tradition
In TPM, giving a Testimony is not when Holy Spirit fills your heart with gratitude. In TPM, it is a tradition. It must take place compulsorily. When white clad leader says “Time for testimony” and we find no one arising up, then the saint becomes angry and says “No testimonies, Shame on you calling yourselves as believer.” Then some believer stands up as a forced testimony to save honor to the rebuke of TPM’s bossy minister.
Witness to prayer of saints
Generally, the purpose of a testimony is to glorify God. However, in TPM saints are glorified and exalted. Saint worshipers stand up and says, “I was not feeling well and then I called TPM minister and he prayed for me and now I am perfectly alright.” This is usual testimony in all TPM churches throughout the world. Such testimonies train other members to give such testimonies and the cycle keeps repeating every Sunday all throughout the TPM kingdom. It is a marketing gimmick to expand the kingdom of TPM.
Dear TPM Believer,
Do not fall for the such gimmicks of TPM Ministers. If you are truly born again (not the fake TPM one), then the following verse is for you.
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
You are supposed to declare the praises of Jesus for what he has done in your life. i.e called you and brought you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
Do not waste your time in confirming yourself to these external manifestations of Religion. Be true to yourself.
